Funeral services for J. Louis Lane, 76, of Otranto, who died at his farm home Wednesday, April 23, 1958, were held Saturday, April 26, at the Otranto Community church with the Rev. Elwin Labrenz officiating.
James Louis Lane, the son of the late Hans K. and Mary L. Lane, was born in St. Ansgar February 11, 1882. He was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Johann Olsen, pastor of the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar.
He received his education in the rural school of Mitchell county, the public school of St. Ansgar, the St. Ansgar Seminary and the Cedar Rapids Business college.
Mr. Lane worked on the farm for a number of years, but having occured business training at Cedar Rapids, took up office work in a bank and later became assistant postmaster of St. Ansgar and Osage. He spent several years in northern Minnesota helping to open the Lake of the Woods county to homesteaders.
Upon the death of his parents he established a home with his sister, Emma, on a farm near Otranto. He was engaged in farming and nursery plant work at the time of his death.
Mr. Lane is survived by one sister, Emma, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Groth and Mrs. Clara Tollefson and one brother, Karl O.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Labrenz in charge of the committal service.
