Dies After California
Automobile AccidentOSAGE, IOWA — Word has been received here of the death of Patrick Monaghan, about 75, at his home in Arcadia, California, June 13 from injuries he received six months ago when he was crushed by a speeding car.
The accident happened as Mr. and Mrs. Monaghan were getting into the car of their daughter, Mrs. Lauren C. Shaffer, in front of a store in Arcadia. A police car, speeding through the business district, went out of control, careened across the street into the Shaffer car and crushed Mr. Monaghan between the running board and the curb.
At the inquest his death was placed on the negligence of the police officer.
Mr. Monaghan was a native of Elma. He and his family came to Osage in 1910 and lived "here until 1929 when they moved to Arcadia.
Surviving are his widow and their children, Mrs. Clarence Thielen of North Hollywood, California, Mrs. Dan Monen of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Lauren Shaffer of Pasadena, California and John, a petty officer stationed at Midway Island.
