OSAGE, IOWA — Funeral rites will be at 1.30 p. m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home for Charles C. McKenzie, 79, who died Saturday morning at his home following a malignant illness. He underwent surgery in November; burial in the Horton Cemetery in Bremer county, near Waverly.

Born on January 29, 1870, in Lake county, Illinois, to John Robert and Amy McKenzie. He came to Iowa as a young man, settling in Bremer County.

He married Olive Coffman in September, 1891, and first home was in Bremer County. They lived successively in Nashua, Minnesota, Calmar and Cresco, coming to Osage in 1929.

He leaves nine children Verlyn, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Clarence, Austin, Minnesota; Ralph, Preston Minnesota, George, Osage; Mrs. Roy Hall, Faribault, Minnesota; Mrs. Dale Benson and Mrs. Walter Rice, Harmony, Minnesota; Mrs. John Smith, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Alfred Olson; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Preceding him were three brothers, Frank, Will and Jay, and one sister, Mrs. John McDonald.

CHARLES MCKENZIE
DIED SATURDAY AT
ADVANCED AGE OF 79

Funeral services for Charles C. McKenzie, 79, were held Monday, April 11, 1949 at the Champion Funeral Home, with Rev. Risse officiating. Interment was in the Horton Cemetery near Nashua, Iowa. Mr. McKenzie died Saturday, April 9, at his home.

Charles Calvin McKenzie was born in Lake County, Illinois, January 29, 1870, to John and Amy McKenzie. At an early age he came with his parents to Bremer county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood on a farm. When a young man her learned the barber trade, which he followed until his marriage to Olive Coffman on September 23, 1891.

He engaged in farming until 1900 when he moved to Nashua and again took up the barber trade. He lived in various places until 1929 when he moved to Osage. He lived the rest of his life here and was in business with his son George.

For many years Mr. McKenzie was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.

He is survived by his wife and nine children. Verlyn and Idabelle of Minneapolis, Hazel of Faribault, Clarence of Austin, Ralph of Preston, Minnesota, Lucille and Merle of Harmony, Minnesota, and George an Olive of Osage. There are also 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

One son, John died in infancy.
