Hugh Hudson
Born in north of Ireland in the County of Dary (Londonderry) Sept 15, 1833. Died at his home in Lincoln Township, Mitchell County, eight miles north-east of Osage, Iowa, March 13, 1904.
He was the youngest of three (3) children and when a boy was employed at his home as a linen weaver, an occupation that was common in those days. At the age of twenty-two (22) he was in Canada. About two (2) years later he settled in Lima, Wisconsin, where he remained until 1864, when he came to Iowa and settled in Lincoln township, Mitchell County, residing for the most part on the farm where he died.
Hugh was united in marriage to Matilda Godfrey at her home in Lima, Wisconsin, on Dec. 13, 1861. Thus for more than forty years Mr. and Mrs. Hudson traveled life’s journey together. Six children, four sons (William J.; George; Thomas E. and Ray E.) and two (2) daughters, (Martha Elizabeth and Annie) survive.
Nearly twenty (20) years ago he was baptized and united with the Free Baptist Church of Lincoln. His religion was of a practical type. He was a quiet, honorable, upright citizen, always showing a spirit of hospitality, accommodating and unswervingly honest.
The funeral service took place at the home, Thursday, March 17, at 10 o’clock (1904), conducted by the Rev. Coon of Osage, and the remains laid to rest in the Osage cemetery.
