Amanda Amelia Sprung was born May 4, 1881 to Christian and Fredrick Fistler Sprung in Jenkins Township northwest of Riceville. She was the seventh child in a family of four boys and four girls.

She attended the Stone school. Her girlhood life was spent on the farm with her parents until 1912 when she, her mother and her brother, Albert, moved to Riceville to make their home. In 1945 her brother went to California and since that time she has stayed with various relatives.

She had been in failing health the past year and passed away at the Riceville Hospital on October 31, 1964 at the age of 83.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Chris, Albert, Fred and Arthur and 3 sisters; Anna (Mrs. Ed Mielitz), Amy (Mrs. Nelson Crum) and Lottie (Mrs. John Miller). She is survived by twelve nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 2, in the Chisholm Funeral Home of Riceville with the Rev. John Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with the Chisholm Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
