Funeral services for Earl Von Akemann, 69, of McIntire, Iowa, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Earl died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center.
Earl Von Akemann was born on Aug. 28, 1941, to Marvin F. and Alice Lea (Anderson) Akemann in Albert Lea. He attended school in Freeborn. Earl and Nola Baldwin were married in 1966 and from this union two children were born. They were later divorced. After school, he moved west and began driving a logging truck. Earl worked as a pilot, owned an excavation business and was a truck owner/operator for 42 years. He received many million mile awards for safe driving. Earl had his pilot’s license for over 50 years. He was an active member of the Jaycees. Earl enjoyed tinkering on equipment and fixing a variety of things. He took great pride in the restoration of his John Deere 620 tractor. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Survivors include children: Tim (Kelly) Akemann, of Northwood, Iowa, and Jim “JB” (Deb) Akemann, of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Alyssa (Josh) Iverson and Trent Akemann, all of Northwood, Jeremy Wenzel, Tucker Akemann and Triniti Akemann, all of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren: Dylan Tews and Payton Wenzel; sisters: Dorothy (Stephen) Kutzler of Dodge Center, Phyllis (Melvin) Schumaker of Kiester, and Darlyne (Steven) Augustin of Byron; brother, Randy (Mary) Akemann of Emmons; many nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Alice, in 1969.
