LERAAEN, KNUTSON, HALVORSON, PETZNICK

Funeral services for Gustav Leraaen, 85, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, December 31, 1989 at the Worth Living Centers, will be held today, Thursday, January 4 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating.

Mr. Leraaen was born April 7, 1904 in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, to Ole and Barbro (Knutson) Halvorson Leraaen. He was baptized on June 23, 1904 and later confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland. He attended Newburg Township School.

He married Sena R. Knutson on September 14, 1927 at First Lutheran parsonage in St. Ansgar. They lived in Newburg Township until moving to St. Ansgar in 1937, and lived at home until the last few years when he lived at the Worth Living Centers in St. Ansgar.

He worked for Clifford Thorson and H.L. McKinley, then for A.C. Janzow & Sons, St. Ansgar, for 35 years until retiring in 1969.

He was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. His favorite pastime was having a large garden and sharing the reward with his neighbors.

He is survived by his sons, Oral K. of Boone and Galen A. of St. Ansgar; one daughter, Mrs. William (Bonnie J.) Petznick of Alco, Nev; eight grandchildren, Nancy, Scott, Eric, Deborah, Denise, Daniel, Lisa and Randy; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Halvor and Henry, both of St. Ansgar; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sena; two brothers, Knut and Carl; one sister, Bertina and one grandchild, Steven.

Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
