Mr. Knut Kittleson was born September 26, 1826 in the parish of Rollag, Numedal, Norway. There he grew to manhood and in 1847 was married to Miss Tone Svenson who survives him. In the spring of 1853 they came to America stopping in Rock County, Wisconsin.

The next year, 1854, they came to Mitchell County and settled in Newburg township where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Kittleson were blessed with far more than an average number of children there having been seventeen born to them of which thirteen are living.

Of these Betsy, now Mrs. Higgs, lives in Minnesota, Andrew and Ole live in Bottineau, N.D., and Sam in Trail County, N.D. The remaining, Kittle, Mary, George, Theodore, Henry, Gertie, now Mrs. Jensen, Gunnel, Betsy and Lars are all living here. Martin went to Trail county, N.D., a little more than a week ago to work in threshing.

Mr. Kittleson was one of the early settlers coming here fully as early as the founding of St. Ansgar consequently the circle of friends who mourn his loss is very large and these have a full measure of sympathy for the family in their affliction.

Last Tuesday shortly after noon a very serious accident occurred on the street of St. Ansgar in which Mr. Knut Kittleson, one of the earliest settlers of this section, received injuries from which he died. Mr. Kittleson had been in ill health since last fall but lately has been able to get downtown occasionally.

On that day he had come to town, driving a horse and buggy, and was in front of Andrew Moe's store ready to start home. There were a couple of Indians across the street and the horse became frightened at them and started to run. Mr. Kittleson did not have the reins right or for some reason could not control the horse and it whirled around and came on the side walk just in front of the east part of the P.O. building. The wheel struck a hitching post and Mr. Kittleson was throuwn out, head foremost, his head striking on a rock, he received severe injuries.

Dr. Bundy was called at once and he was removed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chris Jensen and there he remained in a delerious condition until his death which occurred at nine o'clock Sunday evening. The funeral was held at the Norwegian Lutheran Church Tuesday, September 11, at 2 o'clock p.m. and was very largely attended by the people of the town and surrounding country.
