MITCHELL, IOWA - Patrick (Pat) W. Barrett, 57, of Mitchell, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 18, 2011, from an apparent heart attack while trucking in South Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating.

Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Patrick William Barrett, son of Thomas Edward and Stella Mary (O'Rourke) Barrett, was born in Osage on February 21, 1954. He attended schools in Mitchell and Osage. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 through 1973 and was proud to be a Vietnam veteran.

He resided for periods of time in Clinton and Rock Springs, Wyoming. Pat was an owner-operator and spent most of his life driving truck throughout these United States. He worked for various trucking organizations before buying his first rig from his good friend, Mr. Huck Wilson in St. Ansgar.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding horseback, searching for Indian artifacts and more than anything, he loved his friends and his family.

Pat is survived by his wife, Irene of Mitchell; step-son, Jacob at home; mother, Stella, San Benito, Texas; brother, Michael (Janis), Williamsburg, Va.; sister, Peggy (Richard) House, Longview, Wash.; brother, Daniel, Brownsville, Texas; sister, Toni (Randy) Buck, Nora Springs; and sister, Sheila Barrett, San Benito, Texas; father-in-law, Donald Beyer, Mitchell; mother-in-law, Dorothy Beyer, Mitchell; nieces, Esther, Emily and Josie; nephews, Ethan, Thomas and Quintai; aunts, Margaret Fink, Nora Springs, and Delores Barrett, Garner; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, and two infant brothers.
