Edward G Funte 1870-1931

ED FUNTE CALLED TO REST

Born in Richland Co., Wis., in 1870. Died at Chas. City, Ia., Oct 22, 1931

The community was shocked and saddened when on Thursday of last week news came from Charles City that Ed Funte had passed away in the Cedar Valley Hospital.

Edward G. Funte, son of August and Elizabeth Funte, was born June 11, 1870, in Richland County, Wisconsin. At the age of ten he came with his parents to Iowa and settled near St. Ansgar. Baptized in infancy he joined the Lutheran Church as one of a large confirmation class in 1913. By the grace of God he remained a true, loyal, and devoted member of his church, serving her as deacon when his Lord called him home.

On September 8, 1897 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Brenneisen. God blessed this union with three children, of whom the oldest, a boy, was called hence at the age of eight. Since his marriage he has resided in Mitchell County, during the past four years, one and one-half miles south of Riceville.

He departed this life, October 22, uremic poisoning being the immediate cause of his death. The number of days allotted to him was 61 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

He leaves to treasure his memory, his wife, two children, Frank and Iola, six brothers, Wm. of McIntire, A. J. of Riceville, Henry of Alta Vista, Walter and George of Elma and Otto of Charles City, and three sisters, Mrs. C. O. Greeley of Riceville, Lizzie and Anna of Elma, and a host of friends.

In what esteem and hone he was held in the community was evidenced on Saturday afternoon when some 250 friends vainly tried to find room in the overcrowded Lutheran church, where his pastor addressed words of comfort to the bereaved on the basis of Ps. 23.

Interment was made in the Riceville cemetery where a loving father lies at the side of his son awaiting the summons of his Savior in Whom he fell asleep, to live with Him in everlasting life and happiness.
