INSTANT DEATH FROM AN ACCIDENTAL SHOT

ST. ANSGAR LAD KILLED WHEN GUN HE WAS HANDLING UNEXPECTEDLY EXPLODED

Tragedy entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Kimball, on the Eidahl farm northeast of St. Ansgar, Saturday, and death claimed a particularly shining mark, when the 14 year old son, Avery, was instantly killed by an accidental shotgun discharge.

The unfortunate boy and an older brother were in the house, about to clean the gun, we are told. The gun chanced to be pointing at the chest of the younger brother, when it unexpectedly discharged a loaded shell. Neither of the boys knew the gun was loaded.

The heavy charge tore through the lad's chest, just above the heart. His body was badly torn to pieces at the place struck, and death must have been practically instantaneous. The mother was standing not far away, and at the shot, seeing what had happened, rushed to catch the falling boy, and he died in her arms.

The mother was quite naturally badly stricken by the blow, and required a physician's attention for some time. The older brother, who was in the room when the accident occurred, also takes the blow especially keenly.
