MRS. LUCY SLAWSON

AT AGE OF 81

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Slawson, 81, were held Monday afternoon, February 28, 1949, at the Champion Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. D. James, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in the Osage Cemetery.

Mrs. Slawson died Friday morning at the Stuckey home where she had been under care for some time.

Lucy Parker Horton was born near Rochester, Minnesota, on April 25, 1867, to William and Eliza Jane Dennis Horton. In 1869 the family moved to Iowa and settled in Rock township. On December 29, 1886, she was married to Henry J. Slawson. They established their first home near the parental home west of Osage, later buying the home two miles southeast of Osage. In 1915 they retired to Osage where Mr. Slawson died in 1927.

They had no children of their own, but when Mrs. Slawson's sister died, leaving a baby son, they adopted him, raising him as their own. William now lives in Long Beach, Calif., and was here to spend Christmas with his mother, who was very ill at that time.

Mrs. Slawson was a faithful member of the Methodist church and also of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her son; two brothers, Henry Horton of Osage and Thomas Horton of San Francisco, California; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Miller of Sebastapol, California; and five grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Mrs. Lottie McGrath, Mrs. Jennie Phelps, and Mrs. Bell Miller, and a brother, Charles.
