STRICKEN WITH APPENDICITIS RETURNING TO CEDAR RAPIDS SUNDAY

Funeral services were conducted at the First Lutheran church Sunday for Moris Lawrence Johnson, 35, former resident of St. Ansgar, who died in Cedar Rapids of peritonitis Wednesday of last week. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.

While returning to Cedar Rapids with his uncle, Carl Dahl, Sunday of last week, he was stricken with acute appendicitis and was rushed to the Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids. An emergency operation was performed but it was discovered that the appendix had been ruptured. He died Wednesday evening, retaining consciousness until death came.

Moris Lawrence Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Johnson, was born in St. Ansgar February 23, 1900. He was baptized by Rev. John Olsen and confirmed by Rev. M.E. Waldeland May 30, 1915.

After completing his education in the public schools he remained on the farm with his parents, later working as a farm hand. About eight years ago he moved to Pleasant Valley where he was employed for a number of years as a clerk. Later he returned to farming, locating near Bettendorf.

He was married to Ann Johnson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C.C. Johnson of LeClaire, by Rev. E.J. Clarke. To this union one child was born. His daughter, Mary Frances, his parents, and three brothers survive.

The rites were conducted at the church by Rev. Olaf A. Langehough and services at the grave were in charge of Rev. Hiltne of Spring Grove, Minn. Six cousins of the deceased were pall bearers. At the church services two vocal solos were sung by Mr. and Mrs. William A. Groth.
