GERALD W. 'JERRY' HEIDEN

OSAGE, IOWA - Jerry Heiden, 72, of Osage, died Tuesday (Nov. 30, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Jerry was born in Sheldon, Iowa, on June 24, 1927, to Ewald A. and Elizabeth (Heitritter) Heiden. The family moved to Sioux City in 1932, and he attended school there through the third grade. In 1937, the family moved to Osage.

Jerry was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. He attended Osage High School where he was active in football, basketball, track and drama. He graduated in 1945 and entered the Navy in August of the same year. He started working at Osage Farmers National Bank on Aug. 15, 1947.

Jerry was united in marriage to Marcia Gayer on May 7, 1950 at Rock Valley, Iowa. They had two children, Karla Fleming and Kim Heiden. Jerry has been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since coming to Osage, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and in many other capacities on the Church council.

He was a member of the American Legion. He served on the Osage Chamber of Commerce and the City Council. Jerry managed a city league baseball team for 10 years. He served on the Mitchell County Board of Health and the Health Advisory Board. For a short time Jerry served as Faith Home treasurer.

He served on the board of directors at Sunny Brae County Club and enjoyed the game of golf. Jerry retired from Osage Farmers National Bank on Jan. 6, 1991 after 43 years of service. He served on the board of First Citizen's National Bank until the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Marcia, of Osage; his daughter, Karla Flemming and her husband, David, of Monterey, Calif.; his son, Kim Heiden, of Fargo, N.D.; his sister, Elaine Hahn and her husband, Dick, of Boulder, Colo.; his sister, Helen Sjostrom and her husband, Bob, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Heiden and Stacy and Clark Flemming; six sisters-in-law, Martha Gerlach, Emma Moeller, Minnie Bauder and her husband, Roy, Ester Bauder and her husband, Arthur, Ann Wasser, and Dorothy Villanueva and her husband, Ben; one brother-in-law, Robert Gayer and his wife, Lura; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
