FORMER OSAGE WOMAN DIES IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Osage – Mrs. Morris Maudal, 67, former Osage resident, died at White Rock, South Dakota, February 15, her 40th wedding anniversary. She had been hospitalized since November 2, 1953. Her husband was unable to attend the funeral as he had been in the hospital for seven weeks following an accident in which he suffered a back injury. Burial was in a White Rock Cemetery.

Born at Blanchard, Wisconsin, as Sophia Brenden to Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Brenden, she came with her parents to Mitchell County as a child, residing in Cedar Township. She lived there until February 15, 1914, when she was married to Morris Maudal. They established a home in White Rock where they since lived.

Survivors include her husband, four children; Mrs. John Morrow, Norecross, Minn.; Donald and Curtis of White Rock; and Mrs. Larry Drahos, Suffex, Wisconsin.
There are 12 grandchildren, a brother; Chris Brenden; and a sister, Mrs. Olga Christianson, both of Osage.

Sophia Brenden was born in July 1886 in Wisconsin (1900 Census), the daughter of Halvor Olsen Brenden and Jorand Olsdatter Haugen. She married Morris Maudal. Morris was born August 23, 1886 in Norway (Census and WWI Draft registration)

She’s buried in the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, Grant Co., Minnesota. She married John Edward Morrow.

(2) Donald Ellsworth Maudal born October 1, 1917…died January 25, 1996. He married Gladys Katherine Germaine
He’s buried in the Trefoldighed Lutheran Church Cemetery, Battle Lake, Otter Tail Co. Minnesota

(3) Adeline Geneva (Maudal) Drahos born March 22, 1920…died August 9, 1995 in Sussex, Waukesha, Wisconsin. She married Lawrence Martin Drahos

(4) Curtis K Maudal born March 12, 1930…died March 15, 2004 Wheaton, Traverse, Minnesota
(all four of their children were born in Minnesota)
