Death Takes Young Mother

Mrs. Merle Hungerford Passed Away
in Waverly Hospital Thursday
Following Operation

When the news came that Mrs. Merle Hungerford had passed away last Thursday night the community was shocked. Few had known of her illness, and the question in every mind was: Why should a sweet christian mother be taken, who was so well fitted to care for her three little children: All her life she had been closely allied with the church of her choice, the Baptist. Born into a home of christian parents, her early influences made it natural for her to be the kind of woman this world needs most.

Lillian Beatrice Hall was born March 24, 1898, to John and Elsie Hall, at Shell Rock and passed away Nov. 1, 1923, at the hospital in Waverly, following an operation. She attended the Cedar Valley seminary in Osage and here met her husband, Merle A. Hungerford, to whom she was married Feb. 14, 1917. They resided on a farm near Parkers Prairie, Minn., until a few weeks ago, when they came to Osage to make their home.

She leaves a husband, three children-Jean Arthur, Joan Marie and James Hall; also her mother, Mrs. John Hall of Shell Rock, and three brothers and two sisters-James Hall and Mrs. Forrest Whitaker of Shell Rock, Mrs. Ellsworth George of Norcross, Minn.; Isaac Hall of Waterloo and Joe Hall of Wapello, Illinois.

The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church at Shell Rock, conducted by Rev. C.G. Fort, and burial was in the Shell Rock cemetery.
