GRACE BLANCHARD

OSAGE, IOWA - Grace was called Home by her Lord on Oct. 20, 2000. Waiting to welcome her was her husband of 72 years, Harry, and their daughter, Gracie. Grace spent her last days at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, having been transferred there from Heritage Care Center, where she lived the last six years.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with the Rev. Rich Murray officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the services on Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Grace was born in Nemaha, Iowa, on July 27, 1904, the third of four children, to Pearly and Nora (Clark) Tattman. She was raised at Nemaha. Grace married Harry Blanchard on April 17, 1921, at Sac City, Iowa. They moved to Mason City about 1935. Grace and Harry were parents to two children, Grace, born in 1921, and Sonny, born in 1937.

Grace was a waitress at the Bus Depot Restaurant, Freddie's Covered Wagon, The Red Rose Café and Maxines Sandwich Shop, all in Mason City. She enjoyed this work, especially meeting people.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Gildner Circle in Mason City. Grace and Harry were Cub Scout leaders. In 1951 they moved to Osage. She was a bookkeeper for the family business, Blanchard Machine, from 1951 until 1970 when they retired. After Harry's death in 1992, she lived off and on at nursing facilities in Osage until moving to the Heritage Care Center in Mason City in 1994.

Grace's favorite spot was on a lake fishing in northern Minnesota where they had a second home for many years. She looked forward to her children and grandchildren spending time there every summer. She kept busy with her crochet hook making numerous table cloths, bedspreads and doilies. These she lovingly gave away as gifts to family and friends. Nothing pleased her more than having a family gathering where she would prepare one of her big luscious meals. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would bring out the little girl in her and put a sparkle in her eyes.

She was a wife for 72 years

She was a mother for 79 years

She was a grandmother for 58 years
