at age of Nearly 84George Laws Weatherly was born in Peru, Illinois, April 29, 1840, and died in Osage, Iowa on the 25th day of March, 1924, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 26 days.
When a small child he went with his parents to Canada, and after a few years returned to Illinois. When 14 years of age he returned to Canada, living at Simcoe, Ontario, until 1870 when he came to Ossian, Iowa, and established a tailoring business with his father. A year later they moved to Osage and conducted a tailoring business here until 1890, when he went into the grocery business with A. S. Wright, continuing in this business until 1919.
On the 28th day of February, 1872, he was united in marriage with Alice M. Sawyer, of Ossian, Iowa, and to this union three children were born; Mrs. E. W. Palmer and Mrs. A. S. Wright of this city, and May, who died at the age of 9 years. His wife died May 30, 1901.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his two daughters, six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. T. W. Hazleton, of Calmar, Iowa. Mr. Weatherly was a charter member of the Modern Woodmen here. He was a very active man until about four years ago when he suffered a slight stroke, since which time he has gradually failed until his death.
The funeral will be at the residence at 2 o'clock Thursday.
