Patrick Duane Stork, 73, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at the Muse-Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake with the Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating.
Following the service, the body will be cremated and inurnment will take place at the Osage Cemetery at a later date.Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. The family suggests memorials be given in his name.
Patrick was born July 2, 1925 in Clear Lake, the son of Michael Leo and Norma Marie (Patterson) Stork. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1943.
He served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the 179th Infantry, 45th Division. He spent 15-months overseas in the European Theater in Italy, Germany and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in battle in France. He also was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal for his service.
Following the service, he returned to Clear Lake and was employed by Williams Pipeline. He worked as a pipeliner for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
On Aug. 28, 1948 Patrick married Jeannine Henderson at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake. The couple lived in Clear Lake until retirement, when they moved to Cherokee Village, Ark. He served as a lay minister at St. Michael's Catholic Church while living in that community.
Due to Patrick's ill health, they moved back to Clear Lake in 1998 to be closer to their family.
Patrick was a 26-year member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department, serving as its fire chief for eight years. He also enjoyed membership in the Clear Lake V.F.W., Moose Lodge and Elks. He was an avid bowler.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeannine, of Clear Lake; four children, Jay Stork and his wife, Melody, of Haywood, Calif., Jon Stork, and his wife, Judy, of St. James, Minn., Kevin Stork and his wife, Janet, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Sharon Nelson of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Jason Stork, Ryan Stork, Shane Stork, Max Stork, Michael Stork, Sandi Stork, Wes Nelson and Sadie Nelson; and three step-children, Tricia Escobar, Liz Escobar and Natalie Escobar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Sam Thomas.
