--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jorgine Marie Carlson was born near St. Ansgar, Iowa January 13, 1879. She was baptized in her infancy by Rev. John Olsen. She was confirmed by Rev. Sigurd Olson in 1806.

From childhood she was an eager student, beginning her schooling before the age of six and finishing the course laid down by the St. Ansgar public schools in June, 1896.

She took some work at the Cedar Valley Seminary and then took up teaching, which she continued until her marriage March 27, 1898 to Niss Hanson. To this union two children were born: Arthur Carlson Hanson, Age 12 and May Fidelia Hanson, age 10.

The deceased suffered from kidney trouble for several years. She grew poorly during the winter and for the last two or three months she failed steadily. Last fall her medical adviser could offer nothing but an operation and it would be of such a nature that he would not urge it. She sought other aid and hopefully and cheerfully struggled on with very little complaint.

Tuesday afternoon, while talking with friends, she was taken with a convulsion, which left her very weak. Two more followed before midnight.

Wednesday the doctors in consultation pronounced her case hopeless, one though the nurse and doctor worked earnestly, she died Thursday morning at 5:50, having suffered great pain, but conscious until the last.

She leaves to mourn her untimely departure her husband and two children, her father now visiting in Denmark and three sisters.

The funeral was held at the U.N.L. Church, Saturday, July 15, 1911, Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating, and the remains were laid to rest at the St. Ansgar Cemetery east of town.
