Bertha Marie Erickson was born near St. Ansgar, Iowa, on November 24, 1857. She was baptized and confirmed from the N.L. church at St. Ansgar.

On June 24, 1875 she was married to Ole F. Havig. To them were born twelve children, eight of whom are still living. They are: Frederick, Alfred, Martin, Chester, Josephine, Mrs. C.J. Thorsen, Mrs. Alfred Schoger, all of Osage, and Mrs. H.C. Crooks of Nashua.

She grew to womanhood on a farm near St. Ansgar. Later they moved to Fosston, Minnesota, and they also lived at Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, moving from there to Osage fourteen years ago. She was a devoted mother and a faithful member of the N.L. church and Ladies' Aid.

She was taken sick on Thursday, September 17, with gallstones and suffered several attacks. She was operated on Friday, October 2, and rallied, until Tuesday, October 6, when she passed away at 10 a.m.

Left to mourn her untimely departure are her loving husband, eight children, twenty-two grandchildren, her aged mother, two sisters and one brother. She was laid to rest in the family lot at St. Ansgar, Thursday, October 8, 1925.

Mrs. Havig has been prominent in church work, and greatly respected and liked by a large cicle of friends.
