FORMER DRUGGIST DIES AT RICEVILLE DIES AT 92

Riceville – John Roche, 92, a former Riceville Druggist, died Thursday at Emmetsburg. Funeral services were held there Saturday morning and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville, Saturday afternoon.

Born near Elma, he came to Riceville in the early 1900’s and with two brothers, Ed and Will, founded the Roche Drug Company. He operated the store here until about 12 years ago when he went to Emmetsburg to assist his son, Paul, in his pharmacy.

Surviving are his wife, the former Della Zilk, a native of Riceville; a son, Paul, Emmetsburg, and four grandchildren.

The age on the obit may be incorrect by a year or so. In 1900 John Roche is listed living in Chicago with his cousin Mary Roche. It gives his age as 28 and birth as March 1872 in Iowa, with parents born in Ireland.

John 8; William 7; Edward 6 and Mary 2 children born Iowa

According to the 1925 Iowa Census; his parents were Patrick J Roche and Bridget (Kane) Roche and he married Adella (Della) Zilk, the daughter of Charles Zilk and Matilda (Kaven) Zilk.
