E. S. SWANSON OSAGE, DIES
OSAGE, IOWA – Osage businessman Elmer Swanson, 64, died Wednesday from a brain malignancy. He had undergone surgery at Rochester and was at home at the time of his death.
Funeral rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with burial in the Osage Cemetery.
He was born December 18, 1892 near Little Cedar to Alfred and Ingrid Swanson. He attended the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage and was employed by Osage Farmers National Bank for 20 years, following which he has been in the insurance business in partnership with his brother and son here.
Mr. Swanson was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masons, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, having served in World War I, a past Rotary Club member and had served for 25 years on the City Council.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Hovelson, whom he married in 1928; his mother, Ingrid Swanson, 94; one daughter; Mrs. Harry (Jeannine ) Horn; one son; Robert; four grandchildren, all of Osage; two brothers; Albert, Osage; and Godfrey, Eagle Rock California.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
