Edwin “Eddie” Rex 1917-2008
OSAGE - Edwin "Eddie" Rex, 91, of Osage died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2008), at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Edwin was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Marble Rock, the son of Carl and Edith (Smith) Rex. He married Elleanora Loudermilk in 1965. They divorced in 1992. Eddie graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1936.
He served in the Army during World War II. He had his own electrical business in Charles City for two years and was a member of IBEW Local 431 in Mason City for 33 years.
Eddie was a member of the Moose Lodge in Charles City, the Osage American Legion, and was a third generation Mason. Eddie had served as the mayor of Floyd.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Osage. Eddie was active in the Osage Senior Center, where he was a volunteer bus driver. He enjoyed traveling, painting pictures, working with glass and wire, fishing and hunting.
According to his wishes, his body was donated to the Mayo Clinic for science.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association American Diabetes Association.Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at First Baptist Church, Osage, with Pastor Paul Brown officiating. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship at the church after the service. Burial will be at the Eldora Cemetery at a later date.
Edwin is survived by a niece, Jacqueline (Lonnie) Allee of Lafayette, Ind.; a great-niece, Connie (Mark) Jacob of Lafayette, Ind.; a great-nephew, Mike (Darlene) Allee, of Monon, Ind.; six great-great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-great-nieces and nephews; six step-children, Della (Gene) Cordle of Osage, Clarissa (Harley) Johnson of Osage, Frances Johnson of Osage, Roland (Marget) Loudermilk of North Hollywood, Calif., Thelma (Larry) Scharper of Osage and Paul Loudermilk of Shreveport, La.; and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dalton Rex; a step-son-in-law, Kenneth Johnson; and a step-great-grandchild, Matthew Milbrandt.
