Nels Hegg, 63, of Osage, Iowa, was killed at Osage Sunday when he was struck by a “tin can derby” racer at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds.

Acting Coroner Merrill Eiel said Hegg was struck as he attempted to cross the track. The driver, Allen Lourie of Rochester, Minn., was not held.

Nels Hegg was born March 28, 1875, the son of Even and Sarah (Syverud) Hegg. He was buried in Rock Creek Cemetery, Meroa, Mitchell, Iowa.

Nels Hegg

Nels Hegg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hegg, was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on March 20, 1875. With the exception of four years spent on his farm at Driscoll, North Dakota, he lived in the parental home, until ten years ago, when together with his brother, Albert Hegg, he bought a home in Osage and here he lived until his death.

Mr. Hegg received many blessings from his spiritual mother, and had always been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Mr. Hegg has always been an exceptionally active man physically and enjoyed good health all his life.

He was killed in an auto accident October 9, 1938. Funeral services were held at the Champion funeral home and the Rock Creek church, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. O.C. Myhre on Tuesday, and burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.

The following relatives survive: a brother, Albert; two sisters, Mrs. L.P. Berge and Mrs. George Gisleson; an aunt, Miss Pauline Syverud; four Nephews: Edwin Peterson, Pervin and Oscar Berge and Everett Gisleson; also two nieces, Mrs. Everett Martin and Candice Gisleson.
