Christiane Emde was born in Elleringhausen, Waldeck, Germany on July 6, 1835, and died at her home in Mitchell County on November 26, 1907. As her parents died when she was a little child, she lived with her uncle until 1857, when she emigrated to America with Hermann and Adolphine Muller and their family.
On July 24, 1859 she was united in marriage to Albert Wilk. Nine children came to bless this union, seven daughters and two sons. All are still living and were present at the funeral except two who live in Dakota and were not able to be here, having visited their mother during her illness. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren to mourn her departure. Her husband died about a year and a half ago, since that time she has been gradually failing.
She was a loving mother, a kind neighbor and friend, and dearly loved her family and church work. She was a member of the German Lutheran church for a good many years and on November 26th, she peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. She took comfort in the words, "The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin." Rev. Mueller conducted the funeral services at the German Lutheran church at Rock Creek on November 27th. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery beside that of her husband.
