DOROTHY 'DOTTIE' BENSEND
OSAGE, IOWA - Dorothy "Dottie" Bensend, 72, of Osage, died Monday (May 29, 2000) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville. Dottie was born May 3, 1928, on the family farm near New Haven, the daughter of Theodore and Mabel (Quinn) Klaes. She attended St. Mary's School in New Haven, graduating in 1946.
She was united in marriage to Bob Bensend on June 18, 1949, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven. Dottie was a longtime area resident. She was employed at Marr Knitting Mill, AVCO Finance and was a bank teller at Home Trust and Savings Bank, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Sacred Heart Guild and a Bible study group.
She loved to cook, bake and care for her grandchildren. Many lives were touched by her loving and caring nature. Her smile will be remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven with Father John Moser officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage with a 3 p.m. rosary and a scripture service at 8 p.m. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Bensend, of Stacyville; three daughters, Jeannine Roufs and her husband, Jim, of Loretto, Minn,, and their children, Christopher, Lauren and Tiffany; Patricia Fuller, of Mason City and her two children, Jamie Fuller and his wife, Rebekah and Waylon Fuller; and Marilyn Adams and her husband, Jerry, of Stacyville and her daughter, Kristin Heller; one son, Richard Bensend and his wife, Jean, of Osage and their children, Brodie and Tyler; one sister, Eugenia Wagner and her husband, Bob, of Riceville; and one brother, Ray Klaes and his wife, Lorraine, of New Haven.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
