RUSSELL D. MILTON

LITTLE CEDAR - Russell Dale Milton, 68, of Little Cedar, passed away on Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at his home following a long battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 726 State St. in Osage, with the Rev. Rick Magstadt officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Russell was born Oct. 12, 1932, son of Leslie and Alma (Williams) Milton, at their family home one-fourth of a mile from his home where he died. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Little Cedar. Russell received his education first at a one-room country school, just one mile from where he lived the last 36 years. He graduated from the Little Cedar School in 1950.

As a young man he rented some land and farmed with his father. In April of 1953 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. Russell was united in marriage to Gloria Estal on Sept. 3, 1953, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa. One month later, the Army sent Russell to Germany where he spent the next 16 months as a clerk-typist for a military hospital train. He returned home in January of 1955 and the couple farmed near Little Cedar for one year.

In 1956, they moved to Charles City. Russell was in the business of selling fertilizer for the next eight years. In 1965, the family returned to farming and moved to their present home near Little Cedar where they farmed until Russell retired in 1994.

Russell had served on the Little Cedar Elevator Board and the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Board.

He enjoyed his family, farming and spending winters in a warmer climate.
