ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Leda Louise Gerlach, 97, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Ansgar United Methodist Church.

Other arrangements are pending at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar, (515) 736 4920.

LEDA LOUISE GERLACH

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Leda Louise Gerlach, 97, of St. Ansgar, died Wednesday morning (March 8, 2000) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Priem Cemetery, Newburg Township, Mitchell County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St. in St. Ansgar.

Leda Louise Gerlach was born in Saratoga on Sept. 3, 1902, the daughter of Edward and Rosina (Henning) Schrieber. She was baptized Dec. 21, 1902. Leda graduated from Cresco High School and taught school in Howard County and Carpenter, Iowa.

Leda was united in marriage to Earl Frank Gerlach on Sept. 14, 1926, in Cresco. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary prior to Earl's death. Three children were born to this marriage, Dale Earl, Roger Allen and Helen Jean. After their marriage, they farmed south of Carpenter.

Leda was a long time member of the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church. She belonged to WSCS, WCTU, Rachel Circle, Retired Teachers Association and the Carpenter Flower Club. She did volunteer work for many years at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, crocheting, bird watching, knitting, crossword puzzles and tatting. Hundreds of friends and relatives have received some of her tatting as a gift or a special request.

Leda is survived by two sons, Dale and his wife, Arlene, of Toledo and Roger and his wife, Florence, of St. Ansgar; and one daughter, Helen and her husband, Donald Bortz, of Rudd; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl, in 1990; three brothers and four sisters.
