CARL WOLTERS

Carl Wolters of Independence, Missouri, entered into his Heavenly Father's presence on October 30, 2010.

Carl was born in Cole Camp, Missouri, in 1935 to the Reverend Herman and Anna Wolters. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School, St. Ansgar, Iowa, in 1952. He attended St. Paul's Junior College in Concordia, Missouri, and graduated from Concordia College, Seward, Nebraska, in 1962. Graduate and post graduate work was begun at the University of Minnesota and continued at Central Missouri State University.

Carl taught in Lutheran schools in Minnesota before moving to the Kansas City area where he was a teacher in the Hickman Mills School District for 28 years. He taught 4th through 6th grades at Westridge and C.A. Burke before retiring in 1995. During the summers, he and his brother, Paul, did many construction jobs throughout the city. He was always proud to do quality work, whether painting, shingling, or finishing off cement. His many interests included history, reading, and extensive travel in the U.S. He was thrilled to drive the Oregon Trail two years ago. For 42 years, Carl was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church of Raytown.

Carl received a heart transplant at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, in 2003. The medical team at Mid-America Cardiology and the nurses and staff on the 5th floor at KU Medical Center cared for Carl throughout the last 7 years in a loving and caring manner.

The family is very appreciative, especially of Elaine Russell, his heart transplant coordinator. Carl's father and mother, his sisters Shirley Fredrickson and Ruth Toney; and brothers Donald and John, welcomed him to eternal glory.

He is survived by Darla, his wife, of 47 years; son, Steven and fiancee Stacy Alexander; daughter, Carla, of Redondo Beach, California; sister, Ann Wolters, of Concordia, Missouri; and brother, Paul Wolters, of Westwood, Kansas.

Visitation is Monday evening, November 1, at Carson-Speaks Funeral Chapel, 1501 Lexington Ave., Independence, from 7-8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Concordia, Missouri, on Tues., November 2, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Orphan Grain Train, PO Box 1466, Norfolk, Nebraska or The Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, MO 63141.

Arrangements: Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO, 816-252-7900.
