CLARENCE MAYER

STACYVILLE - Clarence Mayer, 69, died suddenly Friday (Nov. 26, 1999) in the emergency room at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, with military rites at the grave conducted by the Stacyville American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the church hall. At 3 p.m. there will be a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and at 7 p.m. a scripture service. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Mayer was born on January 4, 1930, near Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Clara (Hemann) Mayer. He graduated from Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville.

He married Dorothy Mae Hall on July 3, 1951, in Austin, Minnesota. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for more than 30 years at the Stacyville Co-op and its affiliates and was manager there for more than 15 years. He retired in September of 1990.

After retirement he spent time with his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening and became an active volunteer at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake and several other organizations. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion.

Clarence will be sadly missed by his six children, their spouses, his seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

He is survived by four daughters, Marie Mayer of Ames and her husband, Larry Brandt of Cedar Falls and her two stepchildren, Patrick Brandt of Orlando Fla., and Matthew Brandt of Kansas City, Joan Hohl and her husband, Lonnie, and their children, Keri and Kasey, of Sioux City, Angeline Mayer of Clear Lake, Denise Mullenbach and her husband, Darwin, and their children, Renae and Craig, of Rose Creek, Minn.; two sons, Michael Mayer and his wife, Jeanette, and their children, Ashley and Brooke, of Stacyville, and David Mayer and his wife, Dawn, and their son, Max, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four brothers, Romanus Mayer and his wife, Alice, of Charles City, Elmer Mayer and his wife, Pat, of Pekin, Ill., Darrell Mayer and his wife, Lorene, of Lockport, N. Y., and Allen Mayer and his wife, Darlene, of Adams, Minn.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy, in 1992.
