N.J. Berger, Long-Time
Resident Here
Dies in CaliforniaA message was received by W. B. Kingsbury Tuesday, telling of the death of his brother-in-law, N. J. Berger, who died December 28, 1943, at Huntington Park, a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif.
Mr. Berger was well known to the earlier residents of Osage. The family lived here during the years the children were in school and the three oldest attended the Cedar Valley Seminary. The youngest son, Gordon, is a vocal soloist with Fred Warring's famous band that broadcasts weekly.
In 1885 Mr. Berger becasme associated in business with W. B. Kingsbury in the hardware business and continued there until 1915 when he sold his interest to Mr. Kingsbury and his sons. A few years later he and his family moved to California and have been there since.
Mr. and Mrs. Berger both had excellent voices and sang in the Baptist church choir for years. At the funeral services for Mr. Berger a recording of a hymn the two had made was played.
Surviving are Mrs. Berger and children: Mrs. Grace Weeks of Point Lookout, Missouri; Mrs. Ruth Pattengill and Carey Berger of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Gordon Berger of New York City.
A funeral service was held at Huntington Park during the evening of December 30; then the body was taken to Whittier, Calif., where the Bergers lived for several years, and a second service was held. Burial was at Whittier.
