ERICK NELSON DIED
SUDDENLY THURSDAY

FELL DEAD WHILE DOING CHORES

HAD BEEN UNWELL FOR SOME TIME

The sudden death of Erick Nelson, one of the oldest residents of Rock Creek, came as a shock to other people of that community. While not in the best of health, Mr. Nelson was about, and was in the barn, assisting with the chores as was his custom. He was conversing with his son, and simply expired without a minute's warning. This was at 6 o'clock last Thursday evening.

Erick T. Nelson was born in Hadeland, Norway, June 24, 1854. At the age of 13 years he came with his parents to America and located temporarily in Highland Prairie, Minnesota. Later he came to Mitchell County, Iowa, where he lived until his death. He continued to live with his parents until he was married and took possession of the home place.

On July 4, 1879, he entered into holy matrimony with Miss Inger Syverud, of Blue Mound, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death January 27, 1910.

Since the time of his wife's death he has made his home with his son, Carl.

In his wedlock nine children were born. Of these, four died in infancy, and the following survive: Mrs. Otto Leverson, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Theodore Christianson, Mrs. Gustave Krogstad, Theodore Nelson and Carl Nelson, all of this community.

Besides the above mentioned children, a sister, Mrs. J. A. Jorgenson, Hutchinson, Minnesota, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

He has been brought up in the Lutheran church. He is a charter member of the Rock Creek congregation. He has been a loyal and active member and always sought its welfare.

For several years his health has been gradually failing. He died on January 3, 1924 at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 9 days. Heart failure was the cause of his death.

The funeral was from the Rock Creek Church on January 7. Reverend O. C. Myhre, officiating. Interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
