CHRISTINE M. STAUDT

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Christine M. Staudt, 93, died Tuesday (March 30, 1999) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Christine was born on August 3, 1905, at Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of John J. And Katherine (Kramer) Merfeld. She was educated in rural schools at Marble Rock, graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1923. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her Teaching Certificate in 1925.

Christine was united in marriage to Carl E. Staudt, D.D.S., on Sept. 4, 1930, at St. Mary's Church in Roseville, Iowa. They lived in Stacyville. Carl died in 1966.

Christine moved to the Stacyville Nursing Home in 1996. Her activities included Local TB Chairperson for 25 years, Globe-Gazette reporter, 4-H Leader, and member of the Stacyville Library Board. Christine enjoyed growing flowers for use at the church. She enjoyed making clothing, quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren. She was interested in the activities of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Monday at Visitation Church in Stacyville beginning at 2:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Visitation School Endowment Fund, the Stacyville Library or Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Christine is survived by two daughters, Sister Mary Arnold OSF (Kathleen) of Briar Cliff College in Sioux City and Mary Katherine Stattelman and her husband, Leo, of Clear Lake; a son, James Staudt of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Anne Mascarenas and her husband, Mark, of Pueblo, Colo., Michael Stattelman and his wife Jennifer, of Stevens Point, Wis., John Stattelman of Minneapolis, David Stattelman and his wife, Elizabeth, of West Lafayette, Ind., and Liz Stattelman-Scanlan and her husband, Daniel, of Aitkin, Minn.; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward P. Merfeld of Marble Rock; one sister, Agatha Krambeer of Marble Rock; two sisters-in-law, Gila Merfeld of Charles City and Dorothy Staudt of Marble Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; five brothers, Anton, Merrick, Leander, Bernard and Louis; and sisters, Rose (Sister Mary Marcellina), Barbara and Ann.
