Harold S. Jaspers
Harold S. Jaspers, age 72, a sports fan and retired farmer, died Tuesday, January 24, 1984 at his St. Ansgar home. Funeral services were held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. Rev. Loyd Johnson officiated with burial in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Harold S. Jaspers was born May 22, 1911, in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Sam and Mae Reiter Jaspers. He was educated in Grundy County and Northwood.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Keidel on June 23, 1934 in Dysart, Iowa.
He enjoyed working with young people. As a service project in the late 40's and early 50's, he donated land for and coached a baseball team comprised of area youth.
He was involved in farming, buying and selling cattle and the insurance business before retiring in 1982. He was an active member of the St. Ansgar Methodist Church, Lions Club, Mitchell County Farm Bureau and took part in numberous Mitchell County 4-H projects. He also was a member of Menker Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Dean in 1936; three brothers: Carl, Fred and Jake; two sisters, Marjorie Halland and Marie Clagett.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, St. Ansgar; two duaghters, Mrs. Don (Linda) Rankin of Arcola, Illinois, and Mrs. Richard (Marcia) Hollatz of Minnetonka, Minnesota; two sons, Dr. Richard Jaspers of Greene and Keigh Jaspers of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Rudolph (Adelyn) Tribbensee of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. George (Helene) Kebschull of Traer; five grandsons and five granddaughters.
