AT HOME IN OSAGECame to County in 1900 and
Settled on Farm in
Burr OakWilliam Allison died at his home west of Osage Tuesday afternoon, after being ill for some weeks, following several strokes of paralysis. Mr. Allison farmed in Burr Oak Township for many years before moving to Osage and was considered one of the most substantial and influential members of that community, or any in which he had ever resided.
Mr. Allison was born in Dane County, Wisconsin, September 25, 1856, and died April 7, 1936. He grew to manhood in Wisconsin and on February 1, 1881, was married to Cora Poole. The first twenty years of their married life was spent in Wisconsin, and their four children were born to them.
Desiring more land Mr. Allison came to Iowa early in 1900 and purchased a farm in Burr Oak, and moved his family there in March, 1930. Excepting for five years (1914-1919) spent in Osage, Mr. Allison lived on that farm until the autumn of 1931 when he and Mrs. Allison moved to the small farm just west of Osage. There Mrs. Allison passed away six months ago and the deceased lived with his son, Ira, and family until his death.
Five years ago, February 1, 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Allison celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Markham in Burr Oak Township. Many neighbors and friends were present on this important occasion.
Mr. Allison was a member of the local Congregational Church since 1905. He was greatly interested in church work and served as Sunday school superintendent in Wisconsin. He was also a member of the R. A. M., and of Chapter No. 19, Couer de Leon commandery, and the Shrine order.
He is survived by his four children – Albert, of Leonard, Minnesota; Mrs. Mabel Hadfield and Merle Allison, of Seattle, Washington, and Ira of Osage. There are fifteen grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip of McFarland, Wisconsin; also a sister, Mrs. Mary Henry, of McFarland.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 2 p.m., conducted by his pastor, the Reverend Stiles Lessly, assisted by the Reverend John D. Kern.
