Irene Karoline Prieb was born September 7, 1913 at the Prieb homestead and graduated from Webster, South Dakota High School in 1932. In 1934 she graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and from Concordia College-St. Paul in 1966. She taught in country schools and while teaching near Clark, S.D., a music teacher needed an accompanist for his student. She accompanied Leon Titus the rest of his life.
On August 10, 1937, she married Leon at the family farm near Webster. Music was always important to Irene. She started playing the piano and at Augustana, she took lessons from J. Earl Lee and became quite accomplished. She taught piano for 61 years. As Irene and Leon moved, her talents as a church organist were always needed.
Irene and Leon were world travelers. They took a two week grand tour of Europe which included the 1980 Oberammergau Passion Play. During a 6-month sabbatical from Concordia College they took a world tour to more than thirteen countries. While touring the Holy Land, Irene was organist at a worship service at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem.
Survivors include her children, Rae Ramsey (Je' Titus) of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada; Jean (Lambert) Krinke of St. Paul; Joanne Wright, Dubuque, Iowa; a sister, Doris Brinkman, Warrenville, Illinois; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
