Osage Woman
Dies at Age 94

OSAGE, IOWA — Mrs. Cora Shears, 94, died Friday at the Kemp convalescent home in Osage. Funeral rites are scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Champion Funeral Home, with burial in the Floyd Cemetery, Floyd county, Iowa.

She was born Cora Brooks, daughter of David and Josephine Brooks, June 13, 1857, at Bridgeport, Mass. Her father, a Civil war veteran, died, and her mother married Enoch Parmalee.

At the age of ten, Cora accompanied her family to Floyd, Iowa. There she grew to womanhood and in 1875 was married to Arthur J. Shears. They lived in Floyd, coming to Osage in 1904, where she had since lived.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1938.

Survivors are two sons, Bert, Seaside, California, and Smith, Elma; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Armstrong, Orchard, and Miss Lillian Beck, 425 Main street, Waterloo; 20 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her also were three sons, Bill, and twins, Claude and Clyde; four sisters, Mrs. Carrie Brooks Green, Mrs. Artie Parmalee Edwards, Mrs. Rose Parmalee Williams and Mrs. Francis Parmalee Horton, and one brother, Bert Parmalee.
