OSAGE, IOWA — Viola Ahrens, 78, died on Saturday, January 16, 1999, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Osage. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage.
Viola Ahrens was born February 25, 1920, in Cedar Township near Osage, the daughter of Herman and Martha (Kroneman) Schuttler. She attended rural schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1938.
Viola was united in marriage with Louis Ahrens on February 22, 1941, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Osage. This marriage was blessed with two sons.
Louis and Viola farmed in the Osage area until 1980 when they retired and moved into Osage. Viola's hobbies included gardening, cooking and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Louis, of Osage; two sons, Merrill Ahrens and his wife, Linda, of Hampton, and Don Ahrens and his wife, Marylou, of Osage; and five grandchildren, Shelley Ahrens of Rochester, Minn., Cindy Ahrens of Iowa City, Renee Ahrens of Shenandoah, Brad Ahrens of College Station, Texas, and Lisa Ahrens of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred Schuttler; and a sister, Mrs. Ortwin (Esther) Hollatz.
