Norma Squier
(Died August 17, 2010)

Norma Squier, age 100, of Osage, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Norma Squier was born June 25, 1910, at Toeterville, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ella (Thompson) Dense. The family moved to Stacyville in 1914. Norma received her education in the public schools and attended the Methodist Church and Sunday School. On October 1, 1929, she married Glen Graves and they moved to the Graves farm near Little Cedar. To this union one daughter, La Vonne, was born. In 1957, Glen and Norma moved to Osage, where Glen was employed until his death in 1971. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 1969.

On December 12, 1973, Norma married Gene Havens. They farmed for one year and then moved to Osage due to Gene’s ill health. He passed away June 3, 1975. On February 1, 1978, Norma married Paul Squier. Norma and Paul held religious services for several years at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and at the Mitchell County Care Facility. Paul passed away July 21, 2000. Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Esther Circle in Osage. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included doing latch hook, making quilts, jewelry pictures and ceramics. Norma spent her last years at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, where she enjoyed the activities and reading.

Norma is survived by her daughter, La Vonne Havens of Ionia; four grandchildren, Leslie (Rachel) Havens of Fredericksburg, Arthur (Brenda) Havens of New Hampton, Mark (Kristie) Havens of Marshalltown, Jeanette Hennings of Fredericksburg; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a step-son, Gene Squier of Riceville; a step-daughter, Ann Squier of New Haven; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a brother, Clarence; a sister, Mabel; a son-in-law, Arthur C. Havens; and two step-sons, Don and Glen Squier.
