Henry Koschmeder, 61, Dies; 2 Sons in Service

Osage, Iowa – Henry Koschmeder, 61, died Saturday afternoon after an illness of heart disease. Funeral services are awaiting word from a son, Harold, with the navy at Farragut, Idaho.

Mr. Koschmeder was born August 11, 1882 in Germany. When six years of age he came with his parents to America. They settled at Mitchell.

In 1914, he was married to Louise Darius, and they lived on farms in and around Osage. To them were born eight children, six of whom survive.

Surviving are his wife, Louise (Darius) Koschmeder, Melvin, at home, Fred, in England with the U.S. forces, Harold Farragut, Idaho; Marion, Robert, and Alice all at home. Three brothers survive; William and August at home and Herman near Mitchell; and two sisters, Anna Hartwig, at the state hospital, Independence, and Mrs. Carl Newman, Northwood.

Mitchell, Iowa - Henry Koschmeder, 61, died of a heart ailment at his home near Riceville. He had come to America from Germany with his parents when he was six, and had made his home in and around Mitchell ever since.

Before moving to near Riceville, he married Louise Darius, in 1914.

He leaves his widow and six children, Melvin, at home; Fred, with the armed forces in England; Harold, Farragut, Idaho; Mrs. Wayne Weldin, Robert and Alice, all at home; three brothers, William and August, at home; Herman, near Mitchell; two sisters, Anna Hartwig, at the state hospital in Independence, and Mrs. Carl Newman, Northwood.

Two children preceded him in death. Funeral Wednesday.

A note from the Koschmeder story in Mitchell County History, 1989--

Henry John was born on August 11, 1882 in Grapschen Kreis Breslau, Prussia, son of Heinrich and Christina (Weiss) Koschmeder. He married Louise Marie Darius in 1914. Henry passed away on November 27, 1943 in Douglas Township, Mitchell County, Iowa and is buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Mitchell, Iowa.
