Barbara Braun was born in Bobingen, Rhineland Pfalz, Germany on April 6, 1852 to Johann and Barbara Vellinger Brown.
She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1867. They followed her three oldest brothers who landed in New York on May 6, 1866. The family traveled through Alsace, France to Paris. The youngest son, Franz used to tell of them being lost in Paris. They departed from LeHovre, landed at the Port of New York and settled on a farm near Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
She married John Braun in a civil ceremony on January 21, 1869 in Concord, Wisconsin. On March 18, 1869 they were remarried in Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin in a Catholic ceremony with special dispensation from the Bishop of Milwaukee.
Barbara and John moved their family to a farm on Section 20 in Stacyville township, Mitchell County, Iowa about 1878. they had a family of twelve children.
Casper was born on March 21, 1870 near Sullivan, Wisconsin. He married Anna Schaefer on November 22, 1894. Casper passed away on September 23, 1930 at Black Creek, Outagamie County, Wisconsin.
Sophia Clara was born on March 21, 1871 near Sullivan, Wisconsin. She married John Casper Pint on February 1, 1893 at Stacyville, Iowa. Sophia passed away on May 8, 1948 at Osage, Iowa and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.
Catherine was born on May 10, 1873 near Sullivan, Wisconsin and died as an infant.
Phillip was born on June 26, 1874 near Sullivan, Wisconsin and died as an infant.
Katherine M. was born on January 10, 1876 near Sullivan, Wisconsin. She married Mathias Rohlinger on May 7, 1900 at Lomira, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Katherine passed away on November 2, 1954 at Kewsaskum, Washington County, Wisconsin and is buried at St. Matthew Cemetery in Campbellsport, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
Mary Kate was born on March 13, 1881 in Stacyville Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She married (1) John Wallweber about 1899. They were divorced. She married (2) Adolph N. King. After Adolph passed away, she married (3) James Shampine. Mary passed away on January 19, 1965 at Austin, Mower County, Minnesota and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams, Mower County, Minnesota.
Emma Theresa was born on March 9, 1882 in Stacyville Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She married Frank M. Winkels in Adams, Minnesota. Emma passed away on December 2, 1959 in Lansing, Mower County, Minnesota and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams, Minnesota.
Nicholas was born in 1883 in Stacyville Township, Mitchell County, Iowa and died as an infant. He is buried at the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.
Frances Bertha was born on October 2, 1884 in Stacyville Township, Mithcll County, Iowa. She married William A. Fuller on August 20, 1904 in Adams, Mower County, Minnesot. Frances passed away on February 14, 1950 at Osage, Iowa and is buried at the Osage Cemetery, Osage.
Anthony Joseph was born on November 1, 1885 in Stacyville Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He married Anna Mary Schneider Fasbender on September 22, 1927 at Sacred Heart Church in Adams, Minnesota. Anthony passed away on April 21, 1972 in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams, Minnesota.
Christina (Dena) was born on November 26, 1886 in Stacyville Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She married Charles John Mandler on June 20, 1908 at St. Mary’s Visitation Church in Stacyville, Iowa. Christina passed away on December 6, 1967 in Osage, Iowa and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams, Mower County, Minnesota.
Barbara Braun passed away shortly after giving birth to their twelfth child on February 10, 1888 at the age of 35. The baby was stillborn. They were buried together at Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa
John never recovered from the loss of his dear wife. He later moved to Adams, Mower County, Minnesota. He passed away on July 28, 1925 at Adams, Minnesota and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Adams, Minnesota.By Lori Krones, in MITCHELL COUNTY HISTORY, published 1989, P. 232.
