#1:

FARMER KILLED BY A FALL.

Chris Lund Killed Almost Instantly
Saturday by Falling Backward
From a Load of Hay.

Chris Lund, who resided southwest of town, met almost instant death about three o'clock Saturday afternoon by falling from a load of hay. Mr. Lund, and his son O. B. Lund, were unloading a load of hay, and the former had hold of the trip rope of the hay fork when it broke, letting him fall over backwards from the load of hay to the ground. His son ran to his assistance but by the time he reached his side he was dead -- his neck having been broken.

Mrs. Lund was in town when the accident happened, and was told that he was hurt. She was unconscious of the fact that he was dead until she arrived home. His sudden and terrible death came as a great shock to his family, as well as to ihe entire community.

Christian L. Lund was born in Haderslev, Denmark, November 27, 1846, where he grew to manhood, serving for two years -- 1870-71 -- in the army in that country. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Karen Skov, and in 1880 they came to America and located upon a farm in Fremont Township, Butler county, Iowa, where they have since resided, with the exception of about six years, spent at St. Ansgar, in this state.

Six children with the mother survive to mourn the sad demise of a loving father and husband.
The children are L. P. Lund, of St. Paul; Mrs. Nels Lund, living southwest of town, and C. B., Rena, Sera and Herlig at the old home.

Mr. Lund was an industrious, honest man, respected by all his neighbors, and loved and honored by his children.

The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Nyrup, pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church, at Cedar Falls and interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
