Rites for Preston Burdette
Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon for an Osage resident, Preston K. Burdette, 95, who died June 9, at Faith Home, where he resided. The Reverend David Presher, pastor, and the Reverend Melvin Hall, former pastor here, not of Minneapolis, were in charge of the services at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons.
Preston King Burdette Jr., was born January 18, 1885, in Waucoma, Fayette County, the son of Preston King and Mary Boyce Burdette. The family moved to Riceville when he was three years old. He spent 11 years in Floyd County and the remainder of his life was spent in Mitchell County.
Margaret Snyder and Preston Burdette were married June 5, 1912. He was a charter member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at Stillwater, East Lincoln Township. This group later joined others to form the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Osage, of which he remained a member. He served as a Sunday School teacher many years, and also was Sunday School superintendent and a church board member.
In 1958, Mr. Burdette retired from farming and moved to Osage. He remained active until 1973, when he entered the Riceville Rest Home, moving six months later to Faith Home in Osage.
Preceding him in death were his wife Margaret in 1965; his parents; three brothers, George, Charles and Herbert; one sister, Lucy; and three infant children.
Surviving are one son, Forrest Burdette of Osage; one sister-in-law, Emma Burdette of Norton, Kansas; nieces and nephews.
