Robert Dale Inskeep
Dec. 25, 1923 - Sept. 4, 2008
Robert Dale Inskeep passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008, at the age of 84, with his family at his side. He was a December 25, 1923, Christmas present to his parents, Donald H. and Ruby Gooder Inskeep in Riceville, Mitchell Co., Iowa.
He graduated high school from Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Atlantic City, N.J., where his father who had served in World War I in the Naval Air Service (Blimps), also was stationed. After an honorable discharge he moved to the Gulf Coast and met Betsy Redus, who he married Feb. 15, 1947.
He started his working career in 1948 for Stanolind Oil and Gas as a surveyor. His surveying took him from 50 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico to the bayous of Louisiana, and then to the Canadian border. In 1959, the family was relocated to Farmington. He continued his work in the oil field for Amoco Production, as a permit and right of way man, until his retirement in 1984, after more than 36 years with Amoco Production, now known as BP America.
After retirement, he was able to travel extensively and fulfill a lifetime wish to see Pearl Harbor and he continued to go on antique car tours around the country. There were many loves in his life: family, talking, eating and his love for cars. He was one of three original founders, in 1964, of the Four Corners Model A Club, now known as the Four Corners Old Car Club. He enjoyed collecting and restoring collector cars. In April of 2007, he sold his pride and joy car, a 1939 Cadillac convertible that he restored, to a gentlman in North Carolina. The car completed the Great Race 2007, and won the FIVA International Award and the most popular car.
He is survived by Betsy, his wife of 61 years; son, Robert (Judy) Inskeep; daughter, Nancy (Grandon) Goertz; eight grandchildren, Jayme (Eric) Johnson, Carrie (Robert) Sweat, David and Darrell Inskeep, Miriya (Jason) Julian, Ariana Goertz, Michele Duncan and Haley (Jacob) Stein; and by four great-grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Hadley Sweat, Toby Sweat and Tyler Duncan.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be private
The family would like to invite friends to a Celebration of Life open house from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, at 4007 N. Buena Vista, in Farmington.[Daily Times, Farmington, San Juan, New Mexico, September 28, 2008]
