Died Yesterday
After Brief Illness

Mrs. Generva** Ryerson died at her home Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, after a brief illness. Sunday afternoon she suffered a stroke of paralysis, and has been critically ill since.

Mrs. Ryerson, who was 89 years of age, lived here in Osage with her family for many years; she and her husband, Augustus Ryerson, coming to Osage sixty-five years ago. He passed away in 1898 and for the past thirty years she has resided in Washington and California.

Nearly a year ago she and her son, Eugene, came to Osage, again to live.

Surviving is this son, and another, Fred, of Seattle, Washington. There is also a granddaughter, Mrs. Generva** Hoskins, who made her home with her grandmother for many years now living in South Pasadena, California, and a niece, Miss Augusta Knoulton, here in Osage.

Funeral arrangements are not completed, as Fred is expected to come from Seattle.

Obituary

Genevra** Frances Ryerson

Genevra** Frances, daughter of Esther and Mary Deering, was born in Hebron, Oxford County, Main, January 17, 1842.

Except for a short time in Illinois, she spent her early life in Maine and was there united in marriage with Henry Augustus Ryerson, September 30, 1860.

In 1864 they came to Osage and four years later, in 1868, Mr. Ryerson passed away, leaving Mrs. Ryerson to care for the three small sons. For many years they continued to reside in Osage, but in 1888 they went to Seattle, Washington, and then years later from there to Los Angeles, California. Between these two places they divided their time until 1923 when Mrs. Ryerson and the youngest son, Eugene, came back to Osage for a period of a year and a half, when they returned to Bellingham, Washington.

They again came to Osage last May and Mrs. Ryerson passed away at her home here Tuesday, April 21.

Funeral services were held at the Champion Funeral Home Saturday, April 25, qt 2 o'clock, and burial was made in the Osage Cemetery. In the absence of her pastor, Reverend S. E. Ellis, the service was in charge of the Reverend J. D. Kern.

There remains to mourn her going, her sons, Fred M., of Seattle, Washington, and Eugene D., of Osage, the eldest son, Will, having passed on many years ago. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also her brother-in-law, L. W. Knoulton, and her niece, Augusta, whom she always considered a part of her family.

Her first name was actually printed as shown in the newspapers (i.e. Genevra or Generva) and in the cemetery listing for Osage as Genevia. However, the Social Security Death Index shows someone who is likely her granddaughter with the same name:

It is therefore believed that the correct spelling is Genevra. - kk
