Floyd G. Momberg passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 11, 2010. A memorial service, with military rights at graveside by Osage American Legion post 278, will commence at 2 p.m. on September 4, 2010 at Orchard Iowa.

Floyd was born in Charles City, Iowa on December 14, 1929, the son of Hilbert Momberg and Mildred (Peper). With his mothers permission Floyd enlisted in the Army at age 17. He enjoyed a distinguished army career participating in a variety of assignments. His 7-year Army career included paratrooper/rifle squad leader with the 187th Airborne Infantry Division, he completed dozens of "jumps" including two behind enemy lines during the Korean War. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant first class in 1954.

Floyd married Joanna (Crawford, Orchard, Iowa) in Pomona, California in 1958. For 20 years Floyd loved his job and people at the neighborhood store (Market Spot) in Pomona.

After retirement from the grocery business he owned and operated Hilton Financial for 10 years. First and foremost Floyd was a devoted family man and leader, first to his mother and siblings and then his wife and children. He loved fishing the rivers of his childhood in Iowa. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner. Floyd led his family by example preferring this to lengthy dialogue.

Floyd is survived by his wife Joanna; four children: Mark (Lisa), Michele Balsimo (Robin), Mike (Mari), Matt (Lisa); and seven grandchildren. All who knew him will surely miss Floyd.
