OBITUARY: Harold O. Haugen, 1870-1949

Funeral services for Harold O. Haugen, 78, will be held Friday afternoon, April 8, 1949 at 1:15 at the Champion Funeral Home and at two o’clock at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. The Rev. S.O. Sorlien will officiate and burial will be made in the Rock Creek cemetery. Mr. Haugen died Tuesday morning August 5, 1949 at his home near Osage.

Harold O. Haugen was born December 9, 1870 in Valdres, Norway to Ole and Anne Haugen. He came to the United States in 1878 with his parents and sisters and they settled in West Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. In 1879 his father bought the farm in East Cedar Township known as the Dudley homestead.

Mr. Haugen never married. He lived on the same farm with his sister, Nettie, all his life. Two years ago he suffered a stroke and he had been in ill health since.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ole (Mary) Wahl and Nettie Haugen, both of Osage. There are also two nieces, Mrs. Kinley (Alice) Klemesrud of Nora Springs and Mrs. Olvin (Avilla) Moe of Osage. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: Mrs. Annie Nelson, Mrs. Carrie Evenson, Mrs. Lena Larson, and Julia Haugen.

TO BE FRIDAY

Harold Olesen Haugen was born December 9, 1870 at Valdres, Oppland, Norway to Ole Olsen Haugen and Anna Haraldsdatter, the sixth of their seven children and their only son. He emigrated with his parents to Cedar township, Mitchell County, Iowa in May of 1878. The family lived a short while with the Knud Klemesrud family until Harold's father bought a farm in Cedar township.

1880: Ole Olieson age 46, laborer, born in Norway; wife Anna age 42, keeping house, born in Norway, Harry Olieson age 9, born in Norway, Annethe, age 4 at home, born in Norway.

1885: Ole C. Hangen 56, Anna Hangen 56, Anna Hangen 26, Carrie Hangen 23, Lena Hangen 21, Julia Hangen 19, Marry Hangen 17, Harry Hangen 14, Nettie Hangen 8.

1900: Haral Hangen 30, Ole Hangen 72, Annie Hangen 73, Gulia Hangen 35, Nettie Hangen 24.

1905: Ole O. Haugen, Anna, Julia, Harry, Nettie.

1910: Harold Haugen 39, Julia (Gunhild) Haugen 45, Nettie Haugen 34.

1920: Harry O. Haugen 49, Julia Haugen 54, Nettie Haugen 44.

1925: Harry O. Hangen 54, Julia Hangen 59, Nettie Hangen 49. 1930: Harry O. Haugen 59, Nettie Haugen 54.

Harold never married nor had children.

He died April 5, 1949 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
