MASON CITY, IOWA - Delores M. Peterson, 78, of 777 S. Eisenhower Ave., Lot 315, Mason City, died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at her home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein of First Baptist Church, Mason City, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.Fullertonfh.com .
Delores May was born on April 6, 1932, in Osage, the daughter of Henry and Mildred "Mulby" Kuykendall. She attended school in Illinois. She worked in her early years at the concession stand at Target, then for EF Johnson manufacturing CB radios and retired from Sperry Univac Computers in Clear Lake.
While working at Target she met her future husband and was united in marriage to Dennis Peterson on June 23, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church. To him she always quoted "I will love you till the day I die" which is what she did. They enjoyed each others' company and while living on the acreage they had many dogs and cats and when they moved to Mason City they still treasured her two dogs and one cat.
Delores loved her flowers and gardens. She also did needlepoint and ceramics. She shared her time with her husband fishing at Clear Lake and the area rivers. Both were known as excellent dancers and people loved to watch them. They camped with their families and traveled to the Wisconsin Dells, the Black Hills, Las Vegas and California. Delores liked to watch her Westerns in the morning and before going to bed. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Delores is survived by her husband, Dennis, of 36 years; two grandsons, Russell (Vanessia) Johnson and Mike Johnson; her stepchildren, Matt Peterson of Florida, Mike Peterson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Donnie Peterson of Florida, Leslie Schumacher of Tennessee and Sherrie Bryan of Florida; son-in-law, David Johnson, of Leroy, Minn.; brothers, Alvin (Phyllis) Kuykendall of Georgetown, Ill., Carroll (Mary) Stonebraker of Hemet, Calif., Marlin Rossitter of Illinois; sister-in-law, Norma Kuykendall, of Floyd, sister-in-law Vicky Murphy; brothers-in-law, Gary Peterson of Fort Bragg, Calif., and Melvin Peterson Jr. and Clifford Peterson, both of Mason City.
Her parents, daughter Kathy Johnson; stepson, Dennis Dean Peterson; sisters, Doris Jean Kuykendall, Darlene Long, and Leona Cummings; one brother, Clive Kuykendall; stepmother, Viola Kuykendall; and mother-in-law, Alice Galvin preceded her in death.
