Hold Rites Tuesday
for Retired Farmer

Charles City, Iowa — Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., at the Hauser funeral home for Franz J. Bilharz, 87, who died early Sunday morning in the state hospital at Independence where he had been a patient about a month. Death was attributed to senility. The Rev. Boren of the Osage Congregational church will officiate and burial will be in the Orchard cemetery.

Mr. Bilharz, a retired farmer had been a lifelong resident of Floyd county and his home was four miles northeast of Floyd.

He is survived by his wife, one son Franz, Jr., and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Soy, of Vallejo, California.

One son, Kenneth, was a war casualty in Germany, in World War II, on October 14, 1944.

SUNDAY FOLLOWING
LINGERING ILLNESS

Funeral services for Franz Bilharz, 87, were held Tuesday, October 11, 1949, at the Hauser funeral home in Charles City, Iowa. Rev. D.S. Bourne, pastor of the Osage Congregational church, officiated and burial was made in the Orchard cemetery. Mr. Bilharz died October 9, 1949, after a lingering illness.

Franz Joseph Bilharz was born on April 7, 1862, to Louis and Anna Schmedt Bilharz, on a farm near Orchard. He attended the Stillwater school and lived his entire life on the same farm.

He was married to Stella Collier, of Orchard, on September 4, 1907. To this union three children were born.

Surviving are his wife and two children, Franz, Jr., at home and Mary Louise Soy of Vallejo, California. There are also four grandchildren, Bonnie and Marian Bilharz and Kathy and Jon Soy.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth, who was killed in action in Germany, on October 14, 1944; his parents; four brothers, Charles, Louis, Otho, and Victor; and two sisters, Louise Skinner and Lenna Colton.
